Seamless Gutters in Atlanta, Formed at Your House

Each run is rolled from a coil to fit the wall, so the only joints are at the corners, the ends and the downspout outlets.

Are seamless gutters worth it over sectional?

For most houses, yes. Sectional gutters usually come in 10-foot lengths, so a 40-foot wall carries at least three joints, each one sealed and each a place a drip can start once the sealant ages. A run formed for that wall has no joints along its length.

Sectional still has a place: a short run on a shed or porch, or one new section on a gutter that's otherwise fine. On a whole house the joints fail first, and a one-piece run has far fewer of them.

For new gutters anywhere in metro Atlanta, one-piece aluminum is where Decatur Spout starts.

What a fair price per foot looks like

National price guides put installed aluminum gutters at roughly $8 to $20 a foot. The gutter cost guide breaks that down by material and height.

Most of that spread comes from what each number includes, so check what a quote covers before calling it high or low.

What the quote should include

Footage
Linear feet for each run, not one rounded total, so you can check the math.
Size and profile
5-inch or 6-inch, K-style or half-round.
Metal and thickness
Aluminum comes in .027 or .032 inch. Under heavy trees, ask about the .032: it's about 18 percent thicker and stiffer.
Hangers
Hidden hangers screwed into the fascia, and how far apart. One manufacturer spec calls for 24 inches at most.
Downspouts
How many, what size (2x3 or 3x4), and the elbows and extensions.
Corners and end caps
How the corners are made and sealed. They're still joints on a one-piece run.
Removal and haul-away
Whether taking down and hauling off the old gutters is in the price.
Fascia repair
What a rotted board costs to replace if the installer finds one, so it isn't a surprise mid-job.
Color
Which painted coil matches your trim, and what finish warranty it carries.

  1. Old gutters come down

The fascia behind them gets its first good look in years. Soft boards are replaced before anything is hung.

  2. Each run is formed on the spot

Coil goes into the roll former and comes out as one length of gutter, cut a little long and trimmed to size.

  3. The run goes up with a slight fall

It drops at least a quarter inch every 10 feet toward the downspout, on hidden hangers screwed through the back of the gutter into the fascia.

  4. Outlets, downspouts and extensions

Holes are cut where the downspouts drop, and the bottom of each one is turned so its water lands away from the foundation.

Picking the size and the metal

Size comes from how much roof drains into each run, and the sizing section on the home page shows how Atlanta's rain sets it. Aluminum is the usual metal. Steel and copper can be formed the same way, and copper has its own page on copper and half-round gutters.

If pines hang over the roof, plan the guard at the same time. Most guards sit on the gutter's front lip and back edge, so picking one before the hangers go up keeps the two from fighting. The gutter guard page covers which designs hold up under needles.

Questions about one-piece gutters

Can seamless gutters go on a two-story house?
Yes. Each run is formed on the ground and lifted into place, so a tall wall doesn't limit its length. Expect a higher per-foot price for the taller ladders and slower work.
How long does the install take?
It depends on the house, so ask on the measuring visit. Taking down old gutters and replacing soft fascia are what stretch the day.
Do seamless gutters still leak at the corners?
They can. Corners, end caps and the outlets where downspouts connect are still sealed joints. Done well, they hold for years, and they're the first place to look when a drip shows up.
